FOUR PILLARS OF THE PROGRAM

IDENTITY - Correctly perceived identity is crucial for lasting, meaningful, life transformation.  "We will all live in accordance with our perceived identity.  In fact, no one can consistently behave in a way that is inconsistent with how he perceives himself." (Anderson, Victor Over the Darkness)  All behavior is purposeful.

The Key to understanding self and the Christian Life is the ability to understand where one stands in relationship to God.  We are all created in God's image and deserve to be treated as such, and, should treat others as such.  For those of us who have accepted Christ, our identity is now based on the fact that we are Children of God.

Basing our identity solidly upon our relationship with God is a prerequisite to inner healing and a proper understanding of wellness/wholeness.  Therefore, it is incumbent for staff and residents to show those we minister to where they stand in relationship to God, and then assist them in placing their identity firmly in God  and God alone.

"CHRIST-LIKENESS" AS THE STANDARD - We all live by a standard or standards, but often, when asked "what standard(s) do you live by," people have difficulty answering the question.  Articulating and embracing Christ-likeness as the quality standard for our ministries is an embracing of the highest standards.  It is our responsibility to model Christ-likeness, to paint an ever clearer picture of the biblical Christ.  St. Francis of Assisi once said, "Always preach, and if you have to, use words."

The Quality Standard of behavior for both staff and residents is Christ-likeness.
                                                                                                     - Matt 22:37-39-

COMPLETE ACCOUNTABILITY - Complete accountability for inappropriate behavior holds forth a quality standard for both staff and students. All agree to embrace the quality standard.  If the quality standard is not fully embraced, and if accountability is left to slip, the healing environment will be compromised.

Restoration from sin is accomplished by commitment to personal, internal and external life change with Christ-likeness as the quality standard for all areas of our life.  All inappropriate behavior (especilly matters of the heart) will be discussed.  Personal accountability is handled with self-evaluation, a process that is redemptive rather than punitive.
                                                                                                        -James5:16-

Complete accountability is designed to create an environment that encourages positive personal life changes through self-evaluation, leading to healthy and responsible choices.

SELF-EVALUATION - "Examine and test and evaluate your own selves to see whether you are holding to your faith and showing the proper fruits of it.  Test and prove yourselves.  Do you not yourselves realize and know [thoroughly by an ever-increasing experience] that Jesus Christ is in you..."  (2 Cor. 13:5)

"Let us examine our ways and test them, and return to the Lord."  (Lamentations 3:40)

"Therefore, confess your sins to one another, and pray for one another, so you may be healed.  The effective prayer of a righteous man can accomplish much."  (James 5:16)

The ability to self-evaluate one's own behavior is key to lasting personal change.  Lists of rules, behavior modification, and punishment do not allow people to be internally transformed, but rather, are controlling tools that push people merely to conform.  (pharisees had a form of godliness, but denied the power of goad by their actions."

If we do not allow people freedom to fail we do not allow people freedom to change.  Self-evaluation with Christ-likeness as the quality standard allows people the freedom to fail, the freedom to experience God's life-changing grace flowing from others, the freedom to make better choices, and ultimately, the freedom to change from the inside out

Note from the Director

Dear Applicant,

I sincerely hope and pray that you find the necessary tools to aid you in your walk with Christ as HE breaks the chains of addiction and life controlling problems.  We are endeavoring to develop an environment where grace, truth and time are available to you to make choices that will empower you to change.  It is my deepest desire you have an encounter with God while a student/resident here at TLC Ministries.  Programs can only help so much; it is our job to allow the Holy Spirit to change us from the inside out through self-examination.  I hope that you are ready to accept the challenge to make choices that will allow you to change.

God's Best,

Ron
