The Low Country's Hope For The Drug Epidemic



About The Executive Director

Ron G. Von Fricken grew up on Long Island, New York with his family's roots in South Carolina.  He graduated from Teen Challenge International - Bonifay Ranch in South Florida in 1993 and has since received a degree in Chemical Dependency Counseling from Suffolk County College with heavy focus on addiction  counseling and gangs.  Ron and his son Robbie have lived in Beaufort since 2003 when he was burdened to work with individuals fighting addictions and homelessness.


MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

          "Addictions to alcohol and drugs are currently causing tremendous harm to individuals, families, and our community.  The causes of alcoholism and drug addiction vary, but the consequences are always the same - destruction!  Once a person is entrapped in the destructive path and grip of alcoholism and drug addiction, our whole community suffers in many seen and unseen ways",

  • Public and family violence
  • Child neglect and abuse
  • Sexual promiscuity and disease
  • Drunk driving and deadly accidents
  • Robbery and vandalism
  • Murder and suicide

          Of course, prevention and educational programs are the best place to establish a first line of defense against these destructive behaviors; however, the reality is that there are many who are already caught in addictions that destroy lives and families which threatens and compromises the safe, healing environment that is so synonymous with the Low Country.

This growing epidemic affects all ages regardless of socio-economic background, gender, religion and race.  The effects are everywhere and much help is needed to overcome this destructive social trend and spiritual condition.  So what is being done to address this growing problem in our own community of Beaufort, South Carolina, AND what can WE do to make a difference and help?"
